Important Do not install until you have finished reading the following instructions.


Visually inspect your hardwood product, Once you have started to install your product you and the owner are considered to have accepted the product. Hardwood is a natural product by its nature, each Plank is a unique product characterized by its variations in grain and color. Opus floors are manufactured in accordance willindustry standards, which permit up to 5% Defect tolerance, either manufacturing or natural. The installer assumes responsibility for final inspection and visual inspection willthe customer for the product before installing.

  • Preparation: Allow expansion space (equal to flooring thickness) between the wood flooring and any walls or obstructions. Undercut door-jambs, casings, etc.. as needed so flooring has adequate expansion space.

  • Layout: Establish a primary working line, realizing the room is not square and no wall is perfectly straight. The best appearance is usually parallel to the length of the room, but always install perpendicular to the floor joists (wood sub-floors) unless the sub-floor meets special qualifications.

  • Always rack out the entire job before installing to avoid clustered joints or patterns, and to achieve a good color blend. Installation willCleats/Staples Over the sub-floor, install a layer of #15 building felt overlapped 4" at the seams.. Use caution to avoid edge and face damage during installation. Special footer plates are available for flooring nailers to protect factory finished flooring from nailer damage. Use a tapping block as required. Fasten a backer board of minimum 1/2" plywood to establish straight working lines.

    Backer boards should be secured to the subfloor and carefully aligned willthe primary line. Use flooring fasteners designed for engineered flooring (staples—minimum 1" long, maximum 3/8 crown, or cleats—1" to 1-1/4"). Air pressure and tool settings should allow the fastener to seat properly in the nail channel, not split the wood, and not "dimple" the face. Fastening schedule should be every 3-4" (staples) or 4-6" (cleats), willa fastener 1-2" from each end, minimum two fasteners per piece. DO NOT USE TOOLS OR FASTENERS DESIGNED FOR 3/4" SOLID FLOORING. Face nail only as required will1" (4d) finish nails or cleats, 1/2" from the groove, pre-drilling the nail holes to prevent splitting. Face nails should be countersunk and filled.

    Adhesive Installation:

    Many quality adhesives are available that are compatible willOpus Flooring engineered hardwood flooring. Refer to the adhesive container label regarding storage, proper ventilation, trowel notch size/pattern, spread rate, open time, safety procedures and equipment, cleanup and cure time. Avoid allowing adhesive residue to contact the face of the flooring. Some adhesive manufacturers recommend products/methods for removing adhesive residue; others may not. The installer is responsible for removing any residue. Floating Installation: Opus Flooring engineered flooring may be floated over a structurally sound subfloor, using a quality tongue & groove glue (must remain elastic when cured) applied in a continuous bead along the bottom of the grooves . A quality floating floor underlayment pad should be installed between the subfloor and the flooring installation.

    Maintenance and Conditioning Oil Finish: Some of Opus Floorings Hardwoods are finished willOil that is cured into the floors during the manufacturing. For this reason, they must be maintained differently than polyurethane or aluminum-oxide finished floors. First and foremost Hardwood Cleaners are the ONLY cleaning products approved for use when cleaning an Opus Oil floor. Products containing alcohol are not approved for use when cleaning Oil finished hardwood. The reason for this is very simple; standard cleaning products use alcohol as a drying agent to speed up evaporation after application. Alcohol, by its chemical nature, will break down waxes and oils, and damage your Opus Oil Floor. UV Finish: willtoday’s advancements in UV finishes, cleaning your wood floors has never been easier.

    Regular maintenance requires little more than sweeping willa soft bristle broom, and vacuuming willa soft floor attachment. You also should clean your floors periodically willa recommended professional wood floor cleaning product. If you’re not sure what type of finish your wood has, please ask the sales professional from the business you purchased the product. Annual Maintenance and Conditioning: Depending on the environmental conditions and amount of traffic, annual application of wood finishing Oil is recommended to moisturize and condition the floor. In dryer climates and on areas that receive a higher amount of traffic, more frequent application may be necessary to properly maintain your floor.

    The Maintenance Oil benefits the floor in multiple ways. Conditioning: The open, porous nature of hardwood floors allows the floor to absorb and/or release moisture (depending on environmental conditions). The Maintenance Oil will help moisturize the floor. Restoration: The oil element of the Maintenance Oil may help brighten the natural graining of the wood and may enhance the color. As wood floors age, high traffic areas tend to wear more than non-high traffic areas. Maintenance Oil may be applied to the high traffic areas only without having to re-coat the entire floor. However, the entire floor should be maintained at least annually.

    Regular application of the Maintenance Oil will provide longer-lasting protection and help to keep your floors looking beautiful for many years to come. While applying, there should not be any pooling of the Maintenance Oil. When applied properly, the floor should have a slight sheen but should not appear wet. Regular application of maintenance oil will strengthen the floor over time.

    In order for this product to perform properly and to maintain warranty, this product must maintain a range of 35% to 55% relative humidity. Under no circumstances are the humidity levels for this product to be below 35% relative humidity. This will ensure this product will perform properly and maintain it’s warranty. It is the responsibility of the installer, to ensure that the floor must be installed at a moisture content between 6 and 8%.
